GMF Airshow Flights - ideas for model pilots for 2008

The airshow does a couple of things for us, the admission pays for the expenses of the GMF weekend, the toilets, tents, PA system, and the various odds and ends that are needed for the gathering and does a great job of promoting the hobby.

We have a few ideas to share that will add the GMF airshow program and be a lot of fun for you and get you invloved. Every one loves and we appreciate our regular performers, the big aerobatic planes, turbine jets, and warbirds and look forward to them returning each year.

We are also finding that more ships in the sky are better and thus we can have more participation, if you can fly a  race track pattern around the field, you are rated to fly in the GMF airshow.

We had wonderful feedback on the four ship British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP) Heritage flight with the Tiger Moth and Chipmunks, so could a winter project be model of the aircraft of the BCATP and join this flight on the Sunday airshow and other fun flies. What size you ask?, we suggest a models ~ 64" wing span or larger display better. We should have added Carson's Yellow scout to the flight, next year.

Another idea would be a flight of WWI biplanes, a race track circuit of WWI biplanes would display very well and give the airshow announcer time to  talk about each model type, this is a Sopwith Camel, this is a Fokker Triplane, etc. Talk to the other pilots that has one, set up a plan and let us know.

How about a bush plane flight - Norsemen, Otter, Beaver, Husky, Cessna 185, 206, talk to the other guys, start arranging something, maybe a water bomber flight or demo - CL215, PBY, crop dusters?

Do we have enough 60 to 90 sized warbirds for a Reno Race demo, formation flying is not needed, just a few high speed circuits?

How about a EDJ jet mock up combat dogfight simulation - 3 or 4 or 5 edf's filling the sky - Mig verses???

Novelty items - the kids love these, bring your Witch, car, stop sign, superman.

How about a squadron of Piper Cubs doing a fly past, lots of Cubs out there.

An E foamie warbird mock dog fight?

We always can use more big warbirds and do warbird flypast and  some strafing passes on the runway?

Helicopter formation flight,

Glider / sailplane aerobatic demo like Oscar Boesch.

We'd love to have you fly in our airshow!

Got ideas, comments, questions on the airshow, email Jeff, the GMF airshow coordinator!
