Gimli Model Fest News Winter 2007 News!
We at Gimli Model Fest (GMF) http://www.gimlimodelfest.com/ wish everyone the best for the holiday season and Merry Christmas. This time of the year fills our hearts with joy as we visit with our friends and family over the holidays.
The holiday season brings back many fond memories of past year's Model Fests. The GMF event gives us the opportunity to spend a summers day or weekend with our modeling friends and enjoy the camaraderie among people that love aviation and aeromodelling. This warmth and goodwill carries into the Sunday airshow and provides an excellent showcase for our hobby!
Recent News! - GMF is excited to announce that Hobbico and Horizon will be on board in 2008 as entry level sponsors and their contributions will add to the pilot’s prize drawings. We still have room for more sponsors, please email us if you or know of someone that would like to support GMF - the Spirit of Aeromodelling. http://www.gimlimodelfest.com/2008GMFSponsorlevel.pdf

/> At
last month’s WHAM swap meet, we had the opportunity to visit with many
modelers, and there are a lot of new projects in the workshop and we
look forward to seeing them fly at Gimli. We hear that there is a big
P39 Aircobra being built in Kenora, there maybe a 96”ws arf Cessna
Agwagon coming from Saskatchewan and there is a big new Byron F4U
Corsair hanging at the Cellar Dweller hobby shop waiting for a test
flight, then on to Gimli. Before you know it, we’ll be back at Gimli, the sun will be setting, the wind is calm, the BBQ wafts in the air, park flyers humming in the orange sunset, the crackle of the bonfire and tales of memorable flights that continue well into the night, life is wonderful!.
Please forward our best wishes to your modelling buddies that may not be on our email list - Sincerely and Happy Holidays..... GimlI Model Fest
As we leave 2007 and enter 2008, we remember the Apollo 8 Christmas Eve broadcast from December 1968 :
"For all the people on Earth the crew of Apollo 8 has a message we would like to send you". "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. "And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day." And God said, Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good." "And from the crew of Apollo 8, we close with good night, good luck, a Merry Christmas, and God bless all of you - all of you on the good Earth." http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/planetary/lunar/apollo8_xmas.html
Fall 2007 News! Building season is here and we have a neat winter project for you to think about - Create a story board for your model at Gimli Fest. A few weeks ago, we saw this great story board next to the full size P-51D Big Beautiful Doll, the board relates the history of the plane and the pilot that flew her. You can do the same, research your plane on the web, print out in color, get it laminated for weather protection and put it up next to your model at GMF. Email us if you need help on this. With your story board, history comes alive at Gimli Model Fest - story, whether the model is a golden age racer, a warbird, bush plane, or the Gimli Glider, each has a colorful history that visitors love to hear about and for some the model brings back may fond memories. At the Gathering of Mustangs airshow, these Tuskegee airmen were thrilled to see a model P-51D in their squadron's colors so like they say a model is worth a 1000 words.
We are also thinking of setting up a swap shop area at GMF, we have seen this at other fly-in and give modellers a chance to make a deal.
October field work - the hardy crew was out at the field applying topsoil and additional seed at the Interlake R/C flying field and home of Gimli Model Fest. The work will greatly improve the surface of the flying field. From all accounts, were are expecting many new models at GMF 2008, with the great dollar exchange rate, many GMF fliers have bought new planes or started new building projects. Email us the info of your new project for GMF and we'll set up a 2008 projects page. Remember the WHAM SWAP MEET on Nov 25. till later - the gmf crew.
